You may have seen this in apps like the Snipping Tool in Windows, where it lets you copy out the text from a screenshot. It’s also how Google Translate can see the text in a photo or live camera view to translate it.
I used this to my advantage to get out of typing out people’s contact info by hand. I collect a lot of business cards at networking events. I could type the contents of each one by hand into my CRM. Instead I built a simple app that lets me take a photo of the card and jot some notes about how I met that person. AI reads the text out of the photo and adds the contact to my CRM. This tool saves me almost 10 minutes per card (which after more than 200 cards is a lot of time), and means that I actually do capture the info before I forget where I got it.
